We are less than a week away from Easter, which means, we are less than a week away from April! Yay for Spring! I love bringing out all the pastel colors, spring attire, and just able to munch on all our favorite seasonal fruits! Easter is such a special holiday, not only because it comes with the cutest home finds From JCPenney, and motivates me to do really fun Easter activities with the kids. It’s special because we get to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Easter really does some good to my soul. Like, I feel more grateful for the things I have, and I get so inspired to hang out more with my family.
Bringing out all those spring colors also brightens the moods around here. I handpicked a few items this year from JCPenney’s huge selection of Home pieces, the majority of the items were for our kitchen nook, which is pretty bare throughout the year, but with these placemats, and ceramic bunnies, it has brought so much joy to our kitchen. I’ve been inspired to try new things with the kids, and this year, we decided to dye our eggs with all natural dyes from ingredients from our fridge. It was such a fun little experiment to do with the kids, and they were shocked (and happy) at what kind of colors they could create here at home.
I saw the idea on pinterest a few months ago, and was actually intrigued and surprised at how easy the whole process actually was. We normally don’t have dye in our home because, kids. But, This process was less messier, and the dye’s didn’t stain as harsh as your normal dye. So, that was great! Here is what we used to create the colors Pink, Yellow, Green, and Blue!
First, all you will need is 4 cups of Red Beets, Ground Turmeric, 6 cups Spinach, 4 cups purple cabbage, white vinegar, and salt.
Pink Eggs – chopped 4 cups of red beets, 2 tablespoons of white vinegar, 1 tsp salt, and 4 cups water. Place all ingredients in a pot and bring to boil. Leave simmered and uncovered for 30 minutes, and then remove the beets, and set liquid aside. Than, you’ll place raw eggs with the hot liquid into a saucepan and bring back to boil. Cook for 12-15 minutes. Turn off heat, and let the eggs sit for another 25 minutes or so.
Yellow Eggs – add 4 tbsp of ground turmeric, 2 tbsp vinegar, 1 tsp salt, and 4 cups of water to a pot and bring to boil. Once the water starts boiling, let simmer for about 30 minutes. Once liquid is cooled you place a hardboiled egg in liquid for a few minutes.
Green Eggs – add 6 cups of chopped spinach, 2 tbsp turmeric, 2 tbsp vinegar, 1 tsp salt, and 4 cups of water to a pot and bring to a boil. Once the water starts boiling, leave to simmer and uncovered for 30 minutes. Strain the spinach and set the liquid aside to cool. Once cool, Dip your hard boiled eggs and leave in for 30 minutes.
Blue Eggs – add 4 cups of chopped purple cabbage, 2 tbsp vinegar, 1 tsp salt, and 4 cups of water to pot and bring to boil. Once water is boiling, leave simmered and uncovered for 30 minutes. Strain the cabbage and set the liquid aside to cool. Once the liquid is cooled, dip your hard boiled eggs and leave in for 30 minutes.
