The secret to keeping your Bath Towels fresh

*Thank you, Serena & Lily for partnering up with us on this post. as always all opinions are my own.*

If you were to look into my linen closet right now, all you would see is mismatched bathroom towels, some that have bleach spots on them and some of my towels are ripped beyond repair. I don’t even remember the last time I have splurged on new towels. I guess you can say it felt like Christmas morning when my Calistoga Bath Collection from Serena & Lily showed up in the mail. They are the best bath towels we have ever had in our household, and I’m obsessed with how soft they are.

These Towels are made from the world’s finest Turkish Aegean cotton and stay soft wash after wash. Trying to keep a towel soft after every wash is hard, so this is amazing! My new towels are so soft that I’m almost afraid to use them because I don’t want them to lose that freshness. Haha.

The smell of Fresh, clean linen is every homemaker’s dream, and there is nothing like wanting your linen bath towels to feel the same every time. But, did you know that if you use Fabric softener on your towels while washing it can leave a residue on them that makes it hard to absorb the water? When you’re washing your towels, your detergent isn’t even cleaning them because of the residue of the fabric softener. This is what makes towels, even freshly washed ones, smell like mildew. Gross, right?

So how do you get that fresh linen smell in a towel? It’s easier than you think!

Hot Water

Baking Soda

  1. Place 1/4 cup of baking soda into your washer (before you add the towels in). Place the towels in after.
  2. Start your load using HOT WATER.
  3. Once your load is filled with water add 1 cup of vinegar.
  4. Place finished cycle in the dryer.

I only use this method every few weeks. I still love the smell of my laundry detergent in my towels. But, there is nothing wrong with refreshing your towels every once in a while. If you are afraid that your towels will smell like vinegar, feel free to rinse them off again with a hot water rinse again. The smell shouldn’t linger, but just in case. 😉 If you’re in the market for new bathroom linen, make sure to check out Serena & Lily’s new Calistoga Bath Collection.
